Living La Vida ..Loulé

Hi guys,

I’ve just come back from an amazing holiday in Portugal and I’m feeling so relaxed but have a serious case of the holiday blues, take me back! !

My sister and her boyfriends family have an amazing Villa in a small town in The Algarve called Loulé and my family and I were lucky enough to get invited to stay for the week.

It was so nice for us all to get away together, lapping up the sun and not having a care in the world. Ahhh bliss!!

The town was so beautiful and had so much character with lot’s of small side streets and cute traditional restaurants at every corner.

Loulé is a town buzzing with culture and is known for its amazing wines and Saturday morning markets. Everyone was so friendly and made us all feel very welcome, it was like a home away from home.

The villa we stayed in had everything you could possibly need we even had lemon trees, grape vines and figs growing in the garden. Everything was so fresh I’ve never eaten so well in all my life, it was great!

One of the evenings we fired up the barbecue and had our dinner out on the terrace with lanterns lit all around. The girls made the cocktails while the boys cooked us up a feast. I even tried octopus for the first time and it was delicious!

A few of the evenings we ventured outside the villa and ate in one the local restaurants. Every year we heard stories about the same place owned by a Portuguese woman Elizabeth so I was really excited to get to try it for myself.

When we arrived we were greeted by Elizabeth herself, she was really busy but managed to pull chairs out just make room for us all which was really lovely.

This place was any foodies dream spot, traditional family style patters, fresh fish cooked whole and the best local wine you could ask for. In this kind of restaurant there’s no menu as such, it mainly consist of grilled meats and fish served with potatoes, fries and salad. (The tomato salad was my fave)

Not only was the food yummy but it was ridiculously cheap and such a contrast to the prices we pay at home. There was eight of us we all had starters, mains and two bottles of wine and we only paid €83 euro!

If you’re looking to try somewhere different for your next holiday I would highly recommend Loulé. It’s a great spot for families and couples looking to relax, the list of things to do is endless.

The town of Albufeira is only a 30 min drive away if you wanted a fun night out or Vilamoura if you wanted to get dressed up and have a nice dinner overlooking the marina.
