Hotel Review|citizenM Bankside

Hey guys,

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and are enjoying the holidays πŸ™‚

I’m certainly loving the break and getting to relax and spend time with friends and family. I’ve been meaning to get back at blogging but have been so busy the past few weeks. Anyway a few weeks ago I was away in London for a long weekend celebrating my birthday with my twinie.

It was such an amazing trip and I can honestly say I had one of the best birthdays in a long time. I love London especially this time of year the lights are so pretty and you really get into the Christmas spirit.

I’m a creature of habit and each time I visit this beautiful city I always stay in the same hotel so I thought it would be appropriate to write a short review on my stay in my favorite hotel in Bankside.

Well, where do I begin! This is hands down one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in and that’s no exaggeration. When I was doing a bit of research on places to stay in London I had only three thoughts in mind reasonably priced, comfort and good location which can be tricky to find! Let’s face it London is huge and generally speaking I’m usually trying to cram in all of my touristy activities into one very short weekend which is exhausting! Thankfully, after searching through a fairly decent amount of hotel reviews on Tripadvisor, I stumbled across citizenM which appeared to tick all of my boxes (Fist pump!)

I was so impressed with the absolutely raving and more importantly consistent reviews they received that I had to take a look for myself.

First impressions – Check In

6am flight. Train to London Bridge. 15 minute walk to the hotel. With luggage. I was certainly ready to get into the hotel and collapse on the super comfy king size bed.

Oh and did I get just that. Immediately we were greeted with smiles and a member of staff to take our bags and assist us with the check in.

As we had an early flight we arrived a couple of hours too early but the hotel staff were very accommodating and let us check in a little earlier.

I really liked the non traditional self check in service and how efficient and quick the whole process was which gave it that extra touch of customer service.

First thoughts that came to mind upon entering the room, WOW!

citizenM believe in space-saving design and have carefully thought out how to make the most of a small space. Everything has a place and purpose to allow for a comfortable stay.

A huge super comfy king size bed with an equally large wall to wall window situated at the foot of the room looking out onto the courtyard.

Accompanying this was a flat screen TV at the foot of the bed with free on demand movies, TV/radio and free wi-fi! (Bonus)

The bathroom was separated from the room with a screen and consisted of a large walk in rain shower and complimentary AM (revitalize) and PM (relax) shower gels, such a nice touch!

There’s also a free mini fridge filled with different beverages and breakfast bars that is topped up regularly to keep you going πŸ™‚

The best part about the room is that everything is controlled by an iPad.

You can change the lighting, black out curtains/ shutter and even the temperature can all be adjusted to suit your mood.  I have to say I felt like a kid on Christmas playing around with all the different controls.

The Breakfast

Breakfast is served from 6:30 AM to 11:00 AM offering a variety of freshly baked pastries, hot breakfast items, fruit, muesli yoghurt, orange juice and fresh brewed coffee/tea.

Instead of a traditional buffet, you can select any items from their breakfast assortment, or choose the full English breakfast which can be done in advance when booking or upon checking in  at a cost of Β£13.95 (Β£ 15.95 if purchased on the day).

CanteenM is also open 24/7 if you have a late night craving! πŸ™‚

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for value for money, comfort and seriously trendy decor then you’ll definitely want to pay a visit to citizenM. I just love the stylish yet relaxed atmosphere with the most polite and helpful staff.

With so many must see places like Borough Market, The Shard and Tate Modern Museum only walking distance from the hotel there are plenty of reason to visit the Bankside area.

will 100% be back here and I’d have no hesitation in recommending and have gone one further and signed up to their newsletter to become a citizen to receive discounted rates and a complimentary drink token!

Hope you all enjoyed this review πŸ™‚

Have any of you stayed at this hotel? Please let me know your thoughts in the comments section.

  1. I agree with everything you said Orla . This is also my favourite hotel and I would not stay anywhere else now. The staff are very friendly and a really good sources of advice when it comes to lesser known venues and events in the city. I am excited to be trying the New York CitizenM next month.
